In the Philippines, and other areas of the world, it is a reality that there are children who walk to school every day in shoes that are mismatched, full of holes,or barefoot. $5 provides a child with a new pair of shoes for the school year.
CLASSROOMS...
In Guatemala, children sit in a classroom with dirt floors...and very few school supplies. Look closely, and you can see how dirty their feet, legs, and clothes get from sitting in a classroom like this. Even though they may have pretty little dresses on, it may be their only dress. Kids in communities like this often dress up when they have visitors.
SCHOOLS...
This really was a school. And kids were attending class here in the morning.
The U.S. military built a new school - one of five - in this part of Juitiapa, Guatemala. We helped to complete the project by providing school furnishings and school supplies for the new school.
CHILDREN...
These are two boys who live near and eat at the dump every day in the Philippines. Here, they are eating a special meal sponsored by the Denton Foundation. Just $1 provided them with a special meal.
This child is sitting in a hospital room in Cebu, Philippines. He is smiling because he receives a teddy bear. Many children in the hospital rooms have never owned a toy since they were born.
